The renovation of this duplex apartment in Laax builds upon the qualities of an alpine housing typology dating from 1973. The intervention preserves the original spatial concept of the *Galeriewohnung*—defined by its double-height living space and visual continuity between levels—while removing elements that constrained its perception.
The project introduces a new spatial clarity through the visual reduction of the staircase, balustrades and built-in furnishings. The kitchen is conceived as a compact and precise element, organized around functional efficiency and an explicit material language.
Timber, mineral finishes and stainless steel coexist without hierarchy, establishing a balance between traditional craftsmanship and industrial production. Rather than transforming the identity of the apartment, the project seeks to reveal and intensify the spatial qualities already embedded within it.
