The renovation and extension of this residential building from the 1920s is located in Klybeck, Basel, a neighbourhood shaped by its industrial and harbour-related origins before gradually evolving into a residential district.

The intervention preserves the building’s original typology, organized around a central staircase with two apartments per floor, while maintaining its urban presence and historic character.

The transformation focuses on improving contemporary living standards. Each apartment receives a new bathroom integrated within the dwelling, while a lift is inserted into the space formerly occupied by the exterior service areas. The attic, previously used for storage, is converted into a new apartment.

The project combines preservation and adaptation, extending the building’s lifespan while respecting its architectural identity.
