The house on Tobelhusstrasse is one of four houses by architect Cramer on this street. The surfaces of the buildings are made of fairfaced concrete, rough plaster, and copper facings. To keep the sculptural construction readable in its original form, a slight, autonomous structure was added and copper seemed the best material to use for the building envelope. The extension, in Swiss-German called Chupferchessi or copper pot, houses in the basement, the wine cellar and on the ground-floor, the kitchen. Thus, the extension is truly a vessel for drinks and food into which the sunlight penetrates through a skylight.
